Écoute TH2 Valve Headphones: Sharper Noise Cancellation, Redesigned Bass Chamber, November Launch

British audio brand Écoute has announced the TH2, an updated version of its valve-amp headphones. The Écoute TH2 is not a clean-sheet design; it refines the model that impressed reviewers when it launched in January 2025. Écoute says the new version improves noise cancellation, fit, and sound quality, while addressing a known quirk of valve amplification inside a headphone chassis.

What has changed inside the TH2

The most consequential change is a redesigned resonance chamber, which Écoute claims improves bass performance. The company has also reinforced shielding against analog valve interference. Alongside that, design tweaks are said to reduce microphonic interference in the valves—an issue that can arise when sensitive valve components pick up mechanical vibration.

Construction materials are unchanged from the previous model. Buyers should therefore expect the same external materials, not a wholesale redesign. The updates are concentrated on the internal acoustics and electrical shielding rather than on the choice of materials.

A smaller, tougher valve

At the heart of the TH2 is the NuTube 6P1, a valve that is smaller and lighter than typical hi-fi valves. Conventional hi-fi valves are large and fragile; the NuTube 6P1 is less fragile and lighter, which suits a wearable product. Valve amps are an older analog amplification technology, but they remain popular among audiophiles for their warm, natural sound. Écoute is leaning on that appeal while trying to make the technology more practical for headphone use.

Connectivity and tuning

The TH2 supports Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C, and 3.5mm connections, and it can be used with external amplifiers. That gives owners wired and wireless options, plus the ability to pair the headphones with separate amplification gear.

Écoute has also changed how equalization works. EQ adjustments apply to the DSP rather than overlaying a blanket change across the sound. The company says this allows more nuanced sound changes, giving listeners finer control over the final output.

Pricing and availability

The fabric band version is priced at $999 in the US, £999 in the UK, and AU$1,446 in Australia. A leather band option costs more; in the UK, that version is priced at £1,099. Écoute has not provided leather band pricing outside the UK. Both versions go on sale in November, though an exact release date has not been announced.

The TH2 is positioned as a premium product, not a budget headphone. Its price places it alongside expensive audiophile gear, consistent with its valve-based design and the specialized NuTube 6P1 component.

Why valve amps still matter

Valve amplification is analog technology that predates the digital era, yet it retains a following among listeners who prefer its character. The physics of valve circuits are often cited as the reason they sound better to some ears. Écoute’s original valve-amp headphones, launched in January 2025, demonstrated that the concept could win over reviewers. The TH2 builds on that foundation with targeted improvements rather than a complete reinvention.

For anyone comparing the TH2 with the previous model, the key differences are the redesigned resonance chamber, reinforced shielding, reduced microphonic interference, and the promised gains in noise cancellation, fit, and sound. The materials and core valve technology carry over. Whether those changes justify the upgrade will depend on how much weight a listener places on bass refinement and interference-free valve operation.
