Nashville SC Supporters' Shield — Nashville SC claimed the 2026 MLS Supporters’ Shield on Saturday, 24 October 2026, defeating CF Montreal 2-0 at Saputo Stadium. The away victory secured the first Supporters’ Shield in Nashville’s history and confirmed the club as MLS’s top team by points.

Second-half breakthrough

Hany Mukhtar celebrates scoring Nashville SC’s second goal during their 2-0 win over CF Montreal at Saputo Stadium on Saturday, a victory that secured the club’s first MLS Supporters’ Shield.

After a cagey opening, Nashville found its scoring touch in the second half. Sam Surridge broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute with his 18th goal of the season. The sequence began with a header from Reed Baker-Whiting’s cross that Montreal goalkeeper Samsy Keita saved, but Surridge reacted first to the rebound and finished from close range.

Hany Mukhtar doubled the lead in the 76th minute. The play developed when Mukhtar intercepted Brayan Vera’s attempted clearance just outside the penalty area. Mukhtar’s shot took a deflection off Keita and found the net, leaving the young goalkeeper with no chance.

Keita, a 17-year-old homegrown player making his MLS debut, produced several notable saves despite the result. He denied Surridge in the second minute, kept out Mukhtar’s attempt in the 80th minute, and also saved Surridge’s first-half header that led to the opening goal. His performance offered a bright spot on an otherwise difficult afternoon for Montreal.

Clear opportunities were scarce early on. Through 18 minutes, the two teams had combined for just one shot. Montreal’s Brayan Vera came closest in the 21st minute when his header missed the far post. Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake caught an Alexis Sanchez free kick in the 31st minute and stopped a Hennadii Synchuk chance about 90 seconds later. Dante Sealy shot over the net in the 33rd minute as Montreal pressed for an opener that never arrived.

Standings and streaks

Nashville’s record now stands at 21 wins, 3 losses and 7 draws for 70 points. The club is unbeaten in seven matches, with five wins and two draws during that run. The Supporters’ Shield adds to Nashville’s regular-season achievements and confirms its place atop the overall standings.

Montreal, meanwhile, sits on 25 points from a 6-18-7 record. The club has won just once in its past 11 games (1-8-2) and has been eliminated from playoff contention. The loss to Nashville continued a disappointing stretch for Montreal, which struggled to convert its first-half chances and could not contain Nashville’s second-half pressure.

What it means

For Nashville, the Shield represents the culmination of a consistent season. The club’s points total and unbeaten streak reflect a team that has found ways to win, even when chances were limited early. For Montreal, the focus now shifts to the offseason, with playoff hopes officially over. Keita’s debut, while ending in defeat, provided a glimpse of the club’s homegrown talent for the future.
